In the heart of Milan – specifically area Porta Nuova – has taken place the most comprehensive urban transformation in Italy for the last decades.

The new Unipol Management Center – a 23-story building with three basements and approximately 120 meters high – will be located in this new context. The tower will host commercial spaces, offices, a large auditorium; its roof comprises a panoramic garden conservatory with an area dedicated to public and cultural events. Its elliptical shape allows the tower to blend in a heavily built context; the façade, embodied by a netlike geometry, is a metaphor for the network that characterizes our society, a metaphor for the intertwined system of relationships. Made of wood and glass, it also conveys the idea of using natural materials inside skyscrapers, explains Mario Cucinella.

For the 2016 Milan Trienniale Exhibition we created an immersive virtual reality experience consisting of five 360° static renders which allowed the visitors a view of the tower integrated in the context of Porta Nuova, during daylight and night-time. The experience also allowed entering the tower and ascend up to the sixth floor. The very suggestive scene visible from the sixth floor was created using airborne drones to photograph at 360° the real surroundings from a 35 meter altitude. The whole experience of immersive virtual reality was developed starting from project files made available by Mario Cucinella Architects; the interior and exterior finishes were modeled ex novo thanks to the constant and continuous coordination with Mario Cucinella and the team of architects responsible for the project; the outcome allows the viewer to feel part of a pulsating and lively public square.
